JUMPING AT RICCARTON

BILLY BOY AND LUCESS HIGH PITCH'S GOOD SHOWING [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] CnifISTCHURCH, Tuesday I There was very littlo galloping at Riccarton to-day owing to unfavourable weatlsor conditions, but somo interesting schooling took, place. Billy Boy (J. Burgess) and Lticcss (D. O'Connor) were sent twice round inside tho stecplechaso course. Both jumped well, the oniy mistake being mado by Billy Boy, who ran off at the second of the doublo and took Lucess with him. Tho pair continued tho task, Luccss especially giving a splendid display. High Pitch (11. Bealo), Apache (G. Dempster), Tho Babo (W. Pascoe) and Lancer (G. Murfitt) were associated in a circuit over tho same fences. Lancer and Apacho led High Pitch throughout, with The Babe tailed off. All jumped well. High Pilch was having his first lesson over big fences, and his showing was very improssive. Lancer went on by himself over another round, and showed no inclination to evade any of the obstacles. Paris (G. Dempßter) and Taramoa (V. Dempster) negotiated two rounds in a satisfactory manner. Paris ran about a good deal, as is usual with him- when schooling, while Taramoa gave another pleasing exhibition. Gay Jim (R. Bealo) accompanied this pair for tho first round and outjumped them at each obstacle. Ho was always a dashing jumper, and appears to have come in auito sound from his long Bpell. B. H. Morris will ride all F. D. Jones' horses at tho Grand National meeting, this arrangement having been made when it was thought that G. Humphries would bo leaving for Australia with Silver Ring on August 5. As Humphries will not now bo required to leave early, ho lias postponed his departuro until August 19. and he will bo able to ride throughout tho Grand National meeting. Ono of his mounts will bo Beacon Fire in tho Winter Cup.
