FINE PICTORIAL SECTION. Another remarkably fino issue of tho Auckland Weekly News is published to-day. In addition to tho wealth of news in tho largo illustrated section, there are many superb photographs illustrating the wonderful winter sports attractions of both the North and South Islands. Perhaps tho most interesting of tho latter are photographs showing exhilarating hockey being played on the ico in the MacKenzie Country, Canterbury province. > This fast sport has attained great popularity. A full-page is devoted to scenes at Arthur's Pass, the favoured South Island winter playground. Othor pictures taken in th o district appear on the centre double-pago and tho frontispiece. A striking half-page feature is made of a spectacular ski-jump on tho slopes of Mount Ruapehu, National Park. " Nelson Cathedral, old and new," is the title of a highly-interesting full-page which provides ;i pictorial record of the construction of i lie fine new building, tho first portion of which is now rapidly Hearing completion. Another full-pago of more than usual interest depicts the All Blacks playing in the opening match of their Australian tour. This year's Derby in England is superbly illustrated. Other prominent subjects in tho issue include: —Saving sheep from the snow on South Island stations; annual inter-club harrier race for the Dorno Cup at Wellington ; Dunedin topics; tho visit of the British research ship Discovery II.; volcanic activity at White Island; the terminal faco of the mighty Fox Glacier; the New Zealand Bowling Council; funeral of Mr. Naera Pomaro, elder son of the late Sir Maui Pomare.
