BURGLARY AT REMUERA.

MONEY AND WATCH TAKEN. ROOMS OF HOUSE RANSACKED. While all the occupants were absent from home a thief thoroughly ransacked th%t house of Mrs. C. E. Nieper at 54, Lillington Road, Eemucrra, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturday and stole about £2 in cash, which had been locked in a wardrobe, and a man's gold wristlet watch.

The intruder apparently was about to try to enter through a fanlight over a door off a verandah when he moved a chair to climb on and found the key, which had been concealed underneath. He made an intensive search of every ropm, throwing clothing and papers about in disorder. Over £2 was locked in a wardrobe, which the intruder forced, taking the greater portion and leaving about 10s in pennies. A quantity of jewellery which was discovered was left lying on a bed, the watch being the -only' article missing.

The man, who left by the front door, which was ajar when the occupants of the house returned, had a narrow escape from being disturbed. One of Mrs. Nieper's sons left the city dutfng the evening to return home, but his car broke down and he did not reach the house.

Apparently the thief had been watching the house previously. Three nights before a neighbour saw a man hiding behind a tree in the grounds. The house was previously visited by a burglar, who broke in about a year ago. On that occasion nothing was taken.
