CHAIRMAN OF DIRECTORS.
MR. O. NICHOLSON ELECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Friday. Mr. Oliver Nicholson, of Auckland, has been elected chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand. Mr. Oliver Nicholson was born at Mangonui in 1864, and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. He afterwards entered the law office of Mr. E.. A. Mackechnie and in 1885 'qualified as a barrister and solicitor. He was later taken into partnership by Mr. Mackechnie and the firm became one of the bestknown in Auckland. After Mr. Mackechnie's death, ,Mr. Nicholson entered into partnership with Mr. G. A. Gribbin, and later his son and Mr. Rogerson became members of the firm. Mr. Nicholson took a prominent part in local body affairs in Auckland. In 1900 he was elected a member of the Mount Eden Road Board, of which he became chairman in 1905. Upon Mount Eden being made a borough in the following year, he became its first Mayor, & position which he held from 1906 to 1918, when he resigned. He held many prominent positions in Freemasonry. After being a director of the Bank of New Zealand for a time Mr. Nicholson held the office of chairman of directors in 1922 and 1923.
