Mr. R. Mallinson, of Leeds, is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. G. Hardenberg, of Hawera, are at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Waite, of Wortliing, England, are at the Station Hotel. Mr. W. Begg, of Wellington, and Mr. R. G. Dawkins, of Picton, are at the Star Hotel. Mr. D. 11. McCowatt, postmaster at Port Chalmers, has been appointed inspector of post offices. Mr. Alan D. Yonge has been admitted by Mr. Justice Herdman as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. Sir Francis Wylie, Oxford secretary for the Rhodes Trustees, left for the Waitomo Caves yesterday morning. Mr. S. P. Lafta and Mr. E. Kennedy, of Wellington, and Mr. C. L. Speight, of Christchurch, are at the Station Hotel. Mr. J. R. Mostyn, of Sydney, Mr. C. L. Banks, of Bulls, and Mr. C. Waghorn, of Cambridge, are at the Central Hotel. Major-General W. L. H. Sinclair-Bur-gess, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces, returned to Wellington by train last evening. Mr. T. McNab, Mayor of Mount Eden, and Mr. D. H. Connelly, a member of the council, left Auckland yesterday morning for the Bay of Plenty on council business. Captain T. B. Sewell, master of the Maunganui, who became ill during the vessel's last trip from Sydney to Wellington, and is now in a Wellington private hospital, is reported to be improving slowly. The Rev. J. Ewen Simpson, minister of the Baptist Church, Tauranga, for the past four years, has received a unanimous call to the pastorate of Colombo Street Baptist Church, Christchurch. It is understood the call will be accepted. Flying-Officer C. A. Washer, R.A.F.,. formerly of New Plymouth, has been appointed instructor to naval officers at Malta in "blind" flying with the aid of instruments. Mr. Washer has been only two and a-half years with the Air Force and is its youngest instructor.
