i MR. NORMAN'S 13TH TERM. Half-year's profit £627,000. (Received March 18. 5.45 p.m.) 1 British Wireless. RUGBY, March 17. Mr. Montagu Norman, governor of the Bank of England, was congratulated at the half-yearly general court to-day on his 13th nomination to that post. Mr. Norman said tho profits of the bank for the half-year ,ended February 29, after making provision for all contingencies, totalled £627.201. The bank was pioviding for a dividend of 6 per cent, less income tax. AUSTRALIAN BANKS. ADJUSTMENT OF RATES. RESPONSE TO LONDON MOVE. (Received March IS. 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 18. The Commonwealth Bank and the trading banks have again adjusted their buying rates of exchange, Australia on London, owing to tho further reduction in tho Bank of England discount rate. The basic telegraphic transfer rate is unchanged, but tho "on demand" rato has been increased by Is 3d and the 120 days rato by 6s 3d.
