PENDING CONFERENCES.

OTTAWA AND LAUSANNE. DELEGATES FROM BRITAIN. British Wireless. RUGBY, March 17. j j The Prime Minister, Mr. Mac Donald, j | announced in the House of Commons today the provisional list of British delegates to go to the Empire Economic Conference at Ottawa and the European Reparations Conference at Lausanne. Mr. Mac Donald said the Government had to be represented practically simultaneously at three of the most important conferences this summer—the Disarmament Conference at Geneva, the conference at Lausanne, opening in June, and the Ottawa Conference iri July. Any announcement must depend on the claims made upon the services of Ministers during the summer. The delegation for Geneva was already known. The representatives for Ottawa would be:— Tlio Secretary for the Dominions, Mr. J. 11. Thomas. The Secretary for the Colonies, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister. The Presidcunt of the Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runciman. A representative of the Ministry of Agriculture. Subject to Government business considerations, tlio Lord President of the Council, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, the Chancellor of tlio Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, and (lie Secretary of State for War, Viscount Haiisham, would also attend the Ottawa Conference. At the Lausanne Conference the Government would bo represented by Mr. Mac Donald. Mr. Chamberlain, Sir John Simon, Foreign Secretary, and Mr. JRunciman. If it was thought advisable and possible the services might be ultilised of the Home Secretary, Sir Herbert Samuel, the Secretary of State for India, Sir Samuel Hoare, or a representative of the Dominions OfTicc. The Daily Telegraph says the announcement, of the personnel of the British delegation to the Ottawa Conferenco will give great satisfaction. There has been real anxiety that the best and strongest British team should bo selected. Mr. Baldwin will he the virtual leader of the delegation and there is every reason to believe that this will he acceptable both to the Dominions and the Home Country. Other newspapers comment on. similar lines. The Times welcomes the selection as a compliment to tlio importance of tlio conference in the nomination of outstanding members of the Government.
