RAIN SPOILS PROGRAMME. , p STOCK CLASSES ABANDONED. The Waitemata. Agricultural and Pastoral Association's 27th show was held on Saturday. Heavy rain which set in early in the morning and continued intermittently throughout the day caused the abandonment of the stock classes. indoor section was well up to standard, but the horeo section was the only outdoor one that could he held. The Kumeu District Agricultural and Horticultural Society's eleventh annual show was held to-day and was fairly well patronised. in spit* of the inclement weather. During the afternoon an improvement in the weather allowed the ring events to take place, excellent competition being witnessed. The display of dairy cattle and stud sheep waß of a high order, the classes being well represented. Indoor competitions were keenly contested and the exhibits made a fine show. The potato and onion classes were of an excellent. quality. Much interest was caused by a display of aeroplane stuntinz by Major Isitt. Tha Herbert Smith Cup for the schoolboys' relay race was keenly contested. Taupaki School being the winners, with Riverhead a close second. Championship awards were as follows: . Hack.—Miss E. SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. Rain somewhat marred the attendance on Saturday at the annual nhow at Birkdale. promoted by the Womfen's Institute, and which was held in the public hall. The exhibition, which was opened by Miss J. A. Mowbray, president of the Victoria League, was a most creditable display of local products, especially from the orchards. The excellent standard of the exhibits demonstrated that fruit, vetetables and flowers of high quality were raised in the distri ;t. The cookery, industrial, art and school ■ hihLen 3 sections attracted keen competition. The dessert peaches, the collection of dessert and cooking apples and the Cox Oranga Pippin apples for export were of outstanding merit. A case of big dessert peaches of the J. H. Hale, or Million Dollar variety, exhibited by Mr. A. B. Congdon, of Albany, attracted much attention, but the smaller fruit shown by Mr. H. Mumme was considered by the judges a better commercial article for dessert. Excellent specimens of large smooth-skinned tomatoes and of large Spanish onions, grown on tbe local eumland, were exhibited by Mr. Ernest Taylor, senr.
