AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.

EVENTS AT DARGAVILLE.

DISPLAY ABOVE AVERAGE.

STOCK PRAISED BY JUDGES

[FROM our own correspondent.] DARGAVILLE. Saturday. The 40th annual show under the auspices of (ho Northern Wairoa Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held to-day at the Mititai Show Grounds. Unfavourable weather conditions prevailed during the morning and it appeared that the fixture would be completely marred by the rain. About midday, however, the weather cleared and the afternoon was reasonably fine. In spite of the conditions. the attendance was slightly larger than that of last year. The success of t fhe fixture in face of the discouraging conditions offers a tribute to the capable organisation employed and to the energy of the president, Mr. Hugh Montgomery, tho secretary, Mr. C. H. McKcnzie, and the various officials.

Numerically, the aggregate entries were considerably in excess of the total at the previous annual fixture and a high standard of quality in the exhibits was maintained. Mr. W. Newell, of Tamahere, who judged the horse sections, said the type of animal shown in several of the classes was equal to anything he had seen. He was particularly enthusiastic concerning the remount horses, declaring that the animals as a class were the finest he had encountered at any show. The quality of the exhibits in the Jersey stock classes was roundly praised by the judges. Mr. W. H. Carter, of Patumahoe. who judged the pedigree Jerseys, said that the first prize-winners were fit to Lie sho\vn at any provincial fixture. The champion cow, he said, was particularly pood. The judge of the grade Jersey section. Mr. K. Stevens, of Maungatapere, declared that the exhibits reached a standard quite equal' to that of any other show. The sheep exhibits were of good class and the Southdown ewes received the particular praise of the judge, Mr. W. Knight, of Manurewa. Very favourable comment upon the poultry exhibits was expressed by Mr. J. H. Horn, of Whangarei. A splendid display was made in the indoor sections. A wood-chopping event, which drew entries from a wide field, provided additional interest. First prize of £3O for the 15in. standing chop, together with the Dassler Cup, went to C. Dwyer (ss). P. Silva (scr) was second and W. Rika (16s) third. Time, lm 19s. The principal prize awards were as follows : HORSE SECTION. Medium Draught.—G. H. Bradley. 1. Pair agricultural horses: G. H.
