WOOL IN AUSTRALIA.

ACTIVE SYDNEY MARKET.

COMPETITION AT GEELONG.

(Received February 18, 10. p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 18.

An active market characterised the closing wool sales of the series in Sydney-to-day. There was strong demand by Japan and Yorkshire for skirtings. Continental buyers also gave good support. Values were very firm for all wellgrown average types of Merino fleece and skirtings, but stylish sorts at times were irregular and lower. Greasy Merino sold to 26£ cl. The offerings totalled 11,129 bales, .of which 10,475 were sold. Also 539 bales were sold privately. MELBOURNE. Feb. 18. At the Geelong wool sales to-day ther» was a fine selection of super fleeces, comprising 10,300 bales. There was good competition, except for better style fleece wool, which sold decidedly in buyers' favour. Lambs' wool was easier.
