UNEMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMY
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The programme for the emergency session of Parliament to be cglled this month was outlined this evening by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes. The chief business will be:—(1) Ratification of the Canadian trade treaty. (2) Amendment of the Arbitration Act on the lines mentioned in the Supple- ,■ mentary Budget of compulsory conciliation and voluntary arbitration. (3) Further measures for unemployment relief. (4) Further amendments to the Mortgagors' Relief Act. (5) Consideration of the recommendations of the Economy Commission. "No further supplementary budgets will be brought down," said Mr. Forbes, but the financial position of the Dominion will be indicated. The Government will then be in possession of figures showing its position for the last 12 months and will be able to estimate what provisions must be made to meet the requirements for the coming year. "If unemployment continues to grow as at present," said Mr. Forbes, "extra, provision will have to be made, but no immediate increase in general Jaxation is contemplated until wo know the figures and requirements for the coming year."
