As a result of a visit, bv detectives to ;i laundry carried on under the name of Lim Fong, in Cuba Street, 011 Wednesday night, Louis Leung, a laundrynian, aged 31, was charged to day with opium smoking and being in possession of utensils for the same. Gee Qung, a market gardener, aged 36, was charged with being found without, lawful excuse on premises used for opium smoking. Bo!h pleaded not guilty. After hearing 1110 evidence, Mr. E. Page, S.M., said it was quite obvious i that opium smoking was going on jmuied atelv before the delcctives' arrival. Leung was convicted on the charge of being in possession of utensils and fined £25. The second charge was dismissed. Qung v\as fined £l2 10s. These were the minimum amounts the magistrate was empowered to impose. The two Chinese were given a month to find the money, in default two months' im- , prisonmcnt in each chpo.
