Accused was found guilty on Wednesday on a charge of failing to disclose her property to the official assignee subsequent to her bankruptcy in January, 1 ( J30. Mr. Wilson said the Bankruptcy Act was also intended to protect the commercial community against fraud. The police file showed that for many years accused had been going round the country and in many places she had been perpetrating fraud. Sho had had some miserable mining claims in tho Nelson district and had obtained money with them. She also had had many miserable art unions by .means of which she had defrauded people. She had defrauded an old man out of his property in Nelson, and lie had to resort to the Court to recover it. Lately, accused had been in business, and hail been buying properties without any apparent means of paying for them. The magistrate said lie had to take; some steps to protect the community, and to see that people were not taken down. Accused had been made bankrupt, and had left the district, and had taken no notice of the official assignee's request for information regarding her property. Ac-' cused was past middle life and had not been before the Court previously. In admitting accused to probation, the magistrate imposed ;v condition that she should return to her husband and keep house for him. If anything was likely to have any influence over her it would bo her oath to obey her husband. If accused embarked again on any of her forays she would be brought up for sentence on the present charge.
