ORNAMENTAL BORDERS.
INVENTION BY A UCK LANDER. The difficulty of constructing a handHome vet inexpensive ornamental bordering for garden paths, flower beds or drives has been solved most effectively by' an Auckland inventor, Mr. E. A. Carter, of I'arr Road, Point Chevalier; He has evolved a type of concrete border which for convenience, cheapness, benutv and durat'litv could not be surpassed Patent riubts have been granted to him for Ihe method of manufacture and assembly of the bordering, and a company is in the course of formation to commence manufacture as soon as possible, and it is proposed to develop production and distribution throughout New Zealand. The borders, constructed of a specially rtrong cement mixture, reinforced and almost unbreakable, are made in convenient lengths and by means of a most ingenious locking device any length or shape of border can be quickly and rigidly placed in position by the most inexperienced person. No skill at all in required iri the assembly, the only preparation necessary being the leveJlhig of the ground on which the border is to lie. The heavy base of the border is of a standardised, plain shape, and along the top is a tapered groove, in which the desired ornamental shapes are inserted. There is a wonderful diversity of designs end the material can be procured in a fine range of colours. A metal locking device secures firmly the different lengths together, making the border as strong as if it had been set by cement workers. At present the only alternative to an expensive concrete border, for which artisans have to be called in, is an unsightly wooden or brick one, prone to rot and break. In contrast, the new standardised borders can be procured at a very low cost, and can be put into position rapidly, or taken up and relaid at will by the householder himself. Being ..of such a simple yet ornamental nature, Ilie sections could be adapted,, for many uses beyond gardening. Many of the designs would transform a plain garage into quite a handsome structure. Anyone interested in this invention sliQuld communicate with Mr. Carter, the inventor, for further information, or ; Ulephone 26-672.—Ad vt.
