BUSINESS FOR RAILWAY.
PAEROA-TANEATUA SECTION. FREIGHT TRAFFIC INCREASED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI, Thursday. A conference between tho business representative of tho Railway Department, Mr. A. W. Wellsted, and . the Waibi Railway Protection Committee was held to-day, when Mr. Wellsted expressed satisfaction with the local efforts to increase the traffic on the I'aeroa Taneatua line. There bad, he said, already been quite au appreciable increase in freights. Asked whether further reductions in charges were likely, Mr. Wellsted said that, apart from sugar, this was improbable, as Waihi had for years enjoyed a preferential tariff, and rates for general merchandise were at bedrock.
