BATHING AFTER MEALS.

DANGER EMPHASISED. FATALITY AT MELBOURNE. Warnings against the danger of swim* ming too soon after a meal were given by th| coroner and Dr. C. ,H. Mollison, Government pathologist, at ah inquest in Melbourne recently into the death of Kathleen May Moore, aged nine years. Evidence was given that following a midday meal of meat and vegetables at. 1.15 p.m. the girl left home to go to a beach.She was warned by her mother not to swim for at least an hour. _ She collapsed in the water, and artificial respiration for two hours was unsuccessful. A witness said that during respiration little water was ejected, but a quanaty. of undigested food was found. _ About. 90 per cent, of the cases of drowning and collapse in the water at this beach were due to bathing too soon after a meal. Dr. Mollison said an interval of from three to four hours should elapse between a heavy meal and a bathe.
