INTOXICATED IN CAR.
CHEMIST ADMITS OFFENCE. SEQUEL TO AN ACCIDENT. A plea of guilty was entered by counsel for Alfred Harold Griffiths, chemist, who was charged before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S M., in the Police Court yesterday with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Hinemon Road, Pbnsonby, on November 20. The case was heard during the course of the ordinary prosecutions for motoring offences. Counsel explained that Griffiths had taken part in a, cricket match at Victoria Park and the two teams had been supplied with a five-gallon keg of beer, which had been consumed by 6 p.m. With a number of other people he had gone to an evening at Heme Bay, the hostess providing five or six bottles of beer at supper at 10 p.m. Two hours later Griffiths was driving a car which collided with a kerb, the steering gear becoming locked and causing the vehicle to crash into a. fence. Griffiths had actually had very little to drink, and the case was obviously one in which the beer had been delayed in action. The magistrate imposed a fine of £lO and cancelled Griffiths' driving licence for three months.
