CENTRAL POWER BOARD.
LOAN SCHEME SUPPORTED. EXTENSION TO MARAMARUA. [FROM OUR OWN* CORRESPONDENT. 1 HAMILTON, Wednesday. Unanimous support for the Central Elec-tric-Power Board's proposal to extend its lines into the Maramarua area of the Whangamarino Riding of the Waikato County Council was accorded at a meeting of settlers in the district yesterday. Representatives of the board were present and addressed the meeting. The chairman, Mr. T. Hinton, explained that before any work could be done it would be necessary that, the loan proposal, on which a poll would be taken on February 2, should be approved by tho board's ratepayers. Tho amount of the loan had been fixed at £40,000, being sufficient to meet the needs of practically the whole of the board's district for several years, thus obviating the expense of taking several polls for smaller amounts over tho same period. The loan, being for expenditure on revenue-producing works, was entirely different from ordinary loans, for tho payment of which rates must be collected each year to meet interest and sinking fund charges. The board had never collected any rale.
