PROFICIENCY OF JEWS. " BETTER THAN CHRISTIANS." LONDON, Dec. 20. That Jews make belter bridge players than Christians, is the conclusion of Mr. Arthur Whilelaw, of Melbourne, who is taking a terim across to America to challenge the United Stales champions, in the new year. " No business man is a first-rat© bridge player," said Mr. Whitelaw to an interviewer. Some of the most eminent business men in Britain were the poorest players and the heaviest losers, although they had applied all their brains and energy to learning the game.

" Mr. Ely Culbertson, of New York," Mr. Whitelaw said, "is one of the shrewdest business men I have met, without exception, and he would be successful at anything, even astronomy, owing to his remarkable concentration. " He is an excellent bridge player, but 'lacks the remarkable card sense of the most brilliant players which Jews possess to an extraordinary degree, just as most Italians are musical. " Christians, however good, do not com--pare. at bridge with the best Jews. My team includes a Jew, Mr. 'labbush, who is confident he is unbeatable: He cares little for systems and is incapable of studying theories; but has a natural flair for the game, outclassing the most scientific opponents. It was Mr. Whitelaw, who presented Don Bradman and J. -A. Mollison, the airman, with £IOOO each. He has written several books on bridge.
