LOST ON MOUNTAIN.
ELDERLY MAN'S ADVENTURE. SNOW FOR GRAND-DAUGHTER. FOUND AFTER SEVEN HOURS. [BX TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday. Anxiety was felt for the safety of an elderly man, Mr. R. V. Slireeve, of Wellington, who became lost on Mount Egmont yesterday afternoon. Search partics were sent out promptly, and at 10 p.m., when Mr. Shreeve had been lost for about seven hours, lie was found by a party in the bush, being little the worse for his experience. To gratify the wish of his granddaughter, who wanted some snow, Mr. Slireeve left his party and pushed on up to the snow line on the northern side o! Mount Egmont. On his return he missed his bearings and could not find his way back to the mountain house. When descending he missed the track in a scoria slip and went farther into the gully. Mr. Slireeve was about a quarter of a mile below the track and in the scrub at Red Ochre Flat when he realised that he was lost, and might have to spend the night in the open. As the wind was chilly and he had no matches he very resourcefully started to build a small stone bivouac, and while he was thus occupied two searchers, Messrs. Larson and Lamb, found him.
