OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
QUEEN STREET BUILMNG. DAMAGE CAUSED BY SMOKE. Two engines from the central fire station answered a call shortly before ten o'clock last evening to premises adjoining the Majestic Theatre, Colosseum Buildings, Queeti Street. Sinokc was issuing from a room above the promises of Mrs. M. McDowell, milliner, but the outbreak was subdued before it could spread. Damage caused to a quantity of apparel oil the first floor was due principally to dense volumes of smoke, which also penetrated to adjoining offices. Cracks appeared in a plateglass window. The programme in the theatre was notinterrupted. Large crowds of people assembled in Queen Street, and traffic was congested when those attending theatres in the city emerged into Queen Street. HOUSE AT OLAUDELANDS. BRIGADE'S DIFFICULTIES. [FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Monday. Considerable damage to the rear portion of the residence was caused by a fire which broke out in the wash-house at the home of Sir. G. F. Saunders, in Mason's Avenue, Claudelands, shortly after eight o'clock this morning. The Hamilton brigade soon suppressed the outbreak, although the work was rendered difficult by the fact that the nearest hydrant was 600 feet away. Little damage was caused to the contents. The dwelling, which is built in brick and is owned by Mr. H. Beebe, is insured in the New Zealand Office. Ihe contents are covered for £3OO in the Queensland Office.
