The outsider of the field in tho Winchmore Hack Handicap, Ma Belle Polly, scored a narrow win from another outsider, High Tor, who, better handled, might have reversed the places. • The favourite. Sailor's Love, had overy chance, but suffered by tho hard going and finished in fourth place. Merry Peel was also in strong demand, but lost his chanco by being badly left at tho start. Tho principal event, the Tiliwald Handicap, was the easiest of propositions for tho favourite, Moorbird. Slio followed Winsome Hind and Wise Choice into tho straight, but headed both inside tho distance and won in effortless manner by two lengths from Winsome Hind, who stayed on to beat the fast-finishing liamo by a neck. Wise Choice was half a length back in front of Honeycomb and Starshooter. Moorbiid will not bo raced over tho holiday period. Lochlaggan. daughter of Glen train, was a staunch favourite for tho Lagmhor Plato and won from end to end. She led into the straight from Autumn Bird, Silver Ring and Hilary, and although theso momentarily closed on her at'tho distance, she stuck to her task to gain a short length victory from tho two-year-old Hilary, who beat Terra Firma by a neck. ITurlingham, brother to. Ranelagh, who was last away, was a length away next. The finish of the Moreton Hack Handicap was confined to tho three best supported. Gold Pit took charge at the end of two furlongs and led into tho straight from Crash, Juniper, Babel and Locksley. Tho two leaders noon retired in the run home and Juniper was left in charge, while Locksley made a forward move on the outside. Locksley had. drawn up to Juniper iusido the distance and a close tussle ensued, but Lccksley beat Juniper homo by a neck. Babel finished on \Vell into third place, with a big gap to Nightcap. Locksley gave a meritorious performance, as lie was near tho tail of the field with half the distance covered. Juniper's performance indicated that he is better suited to a mile journey. Ho will make the trip to the Auckland meeting. Solvent monopolised tho speculation _ m the Wakamti Handicap, but finished behind tji o- placed horses. Tho Raider and Sleipner were together- entering the straight from Tajtu Tama, Solvent and Ranelagh. When the leaders were done with at the distance Taku Tama took charge. Ranelagh made a solid run, and 50yds. from tho post appeared likely to gain tho honours, but his effort was badly timed and Taku Tama was able to secure victory by a neck. Ball Dress was' half a length back, with Solvent next,. Solvent ran badly, and is not to go to Ellerslio. ELLERSLIE TRAINING. SIR MOND AND TANERIRI. Weather and trade conditions were excellent for training operations at- Ellerslio on Saturday, when fust work was carried out on tho course proper, where the flags were out 30ft., and on-the No. 2 grass. On the course proper Desert, Star and Spring Abbey went evenly over six furlongs, running tho first three furlongs in 42' l-ss, and completing the full distance in 1-24. ' , . . . Sir Mond and Taneriri ran their first four furlongs in 51s, and finished up a mile in 1.45 3-5, 'with Sir Mond in front at the ond. Sir Mond failed at Takapunn. but' should have a good chance to make amends in tlie Te Awamutu Cup on Saturday. Golden Wedding, after running the first three in 40 2-ss, completed seven furlongs in 1.36 ' 2-5. On the No. 2 grass Golden Spain ran an easy six furlongs in 1.28 4-5, while Stimulant and Grand Spirit sprinted five furlon&s m ßoyal Gallant pleased better than Pal Over four furlongs in 51 2-ss, and Catoma placed six furlongs behind in 1.19 1-5. Excella Tea finished slightly ahead of United at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 4-5.
