CANDIDATES FOR ELLERSLIE. W. RAYNER'S TEAM OF FOUR. SMART TRIAL BY MIDINETTE. [FROM OCR ovrs CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Saturday. W. Rayner, private trainer for Mr. G. M. Carrie, leaves for Auckland on Monday afternoon with four horses to race at the Ellerslie Spring Meeting. They are Pomp and Impetuous and the two juveniles Midinette (Limond—Motley) and Genesta (Thespian—Damaris). Pedestal will be left at homo to continue his preparation for the Marton meeting. This morning Rayner put the team through their final paces. They took 26s for | the initial quarter and a fraction under | 51s for the half-mile. Pomp has come on | well after his two races at the Wanganui i meeting and appears much improved, while 1 Impetuous also has benefited considerably. ' Pomp will contest the Gordon Handicap on the opening day at Ellerslie. while Impetuous may be seen out in the Shorts | Handicap. | Knollmere was given pace-work, on tne ! inside track. Thursday's was his first victory, and R. B. Berry was to some extent rewarded for his patience.
