REBUILDING IN NAPIER.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE. REPLACING THE CATHEDRAL. [BY TELEGRATH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NAPIER, Sunday. Building in Napier continues to make fairly good prograss, as far as town properties aro concerned, but it is expected, now that the Rehabilitation Committee is making money available by way of loan on easy terms, that within a short space of time there will be a considerable increase in activity. In addition to those buildings which have already been restored or rebuilt in the business area of the town, thera are a dozen works of a similar nature in progress. In Browning Street a start has been made with the restoration of the Hawke's Bay Education Board's offices, while the Waiapu Diocesan offices are almost completed. The new wooden building to replace St. John's Cathedral, which was completely destroyed, has taken definite shape, the interior fittings practically being all that remain to be done. It is expected that the building will bo ready for use at the opening of synod on October 15. The contractor has made a start with the laying of the foundations of the Napier Borough Council's market reserve building, fronting Hastings, Tennyson and Market Streets. The post office is in the course of reconditioning, and a large number of men is employed. In addition to repair work inside the building, men are engaged at present in renewing the facings of Oamaru stone on the exterior walls of the two upper floors.
