EQUINE CURIOSITIES.
GATWICK STAYERS' HANDICAP JWINNER RESPONDS TO RATTLE. ' LONDON, Sept. 23. A record collection of curiosities ran in the Stayers' Handicap at Gatwick to-day. They included. Jugo, whose breathing is assisted by a, silver tube in his throat, through which he makes a loud whistling noise when running, and Prospice, with cne eye, who can run o'nl.y on racecourses which turn to the right. Ballyscanlon is celebrated for the fact lhat he will /run only when his jockey makes a noise like a beaten tin can. 3'he jockey has to carry a special rattle instead of a whip, to which Ballyscanlon responds with /sufficient speed to win the Derby. Actually he won to-day's race by half a length. Jugo, whistling like % shunting engine, was third.
