BUYING FREEZING WORKS.
PROPRIETARY FIRMS' ACTION. MASTERTON FARMERS PERTURBED [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTON. Wednesday. The Wairarapa provincial executive of the Farmers' Union passed a resolution Jo day viewing with alarm the fact that freezing works-were being bought up by large proprietary firms, thereby creating a monopoly. Mr. 11. Bennett, mover of the resolution, said where a monopoly was established, the next thing to be expected was the. fixation of prices. < Mr. William Perry, a member of the Meat Board, said the recent Foilding purchase had been approved by the farmer shareholders. Large firms were nlitp tn give better prices because they had the organisation that enabled them to make savings at the other end. The final safeguard was the Government's control over export licences.
