DEATH AT TEA TABLE.
COLLAPSE OF A CHILD. CHOKES AFTER DRINKING. When having tea at a house at Avondale last evening, Evelyn 5 Hunt, a child of 20 months, collapsed and died within a few minutes. The child, whose father is working under the Public Works Department at Wharanui, Blenheim, was staying with its aunt, Mrs. C. Floyd, of 35, New Windsor Road, Avondale. The child had lately suffered from a severe cold and it could eat only liquid foods. It had finished a bowl of soup and had just taken a sip from a glass of milk when it was seen to choke. It collapsed and died almost immediately. Dr. W. A. Alexander, of New Lynn, was called, but nothing could be done. A sad feature of the case is that the mother is at present ill in hospital. An inquest will be opened this morning.
