WATERFRONT ROAD.

FURTHER SECTION OPENED. ROUTE PAST MISSION BAY. IMPORTANT LINK FOR TRAFFIC. A further section of about 34 chains of the Waterfront Road past Mission Bay was opened for traffic at a restricted this week. The section, which was constructed by the City Council, is a continuation of the Public Works contract to Mission Bay. Connecting the Public Works section and the City Council work is a short section of metalled road along Bice Esplanade. The new section which is now open stretches from the end of Bice Esplanade to Kohimarama Road. It is at present laid down in water-bound macadam and has yet to receive a permanent bitumenised surface. Under these circumstances the speed limit on the road has been restricted to 12 miles an hour. The link is an important one as motorists can now proceed right round the foreshore instead of deviating over the hill between Kohimarama and Mission Bay. Access along the foreshore existed previously in the shape of a scoria section and a narrow strip of concrete. Little use of the old road has been made in construction as the bitumen road is on a new level. Work is now proceeding on a further section of 12 chains between Kohimarama Road and Averill Avenue. It is expected that the section will be opened in a month and it will have a permanent surface within two months.
