BUILDING NEW RAILWAYS.
SUSPENSION OPPOSED. PUBLIC PROTEST AT WESTPORT. [by telegraph.—rnEss association.] WESTPORT, Monday. A public meeting this evening, presided over by tho Mayor, Mr. J. 11. Harkness, protested against the report of the Railways Board recommending the discontinuance of the construction of the West-port-Inangahua railway. Speakers dealt with various aspects of the question and stated that the resources behind the railway would ensure it being a highly profitable undertaking. A motion urging the Government to continue the construction was carried. It was decided to send a deputation to Wellington in support of tho decision of tho meeting.
