METALLING KATI KATI ROADS. POLL OF RATEPAYERS FIXED. [from ottr own correspondent.] TAURANGA, Saturday. The Tauranga County Council at its meeting yesterday received advico that the Local GovernmoiU Loans. Board had approved the Katikati loan of £2500 for the metalling of by-roads in that riding. The council decided that a poll of ratepayers be taken on Octobor 14. It was decided to support representatations by tho Waimea County Council that when the Government acquires land, either through purchase or tho default of its mortgagors, it shall be liable for local rates.

It was decided to protest against tho bill introduced in Parliament by Mr. R. Semplo, M.P., tho effect of which, if adopted, would be to bring all county councils and road boards under tho jurisdiction of Arbitration Court awards. The question of representation of ridings was considered, and a motion was adopted to the effect that the representation remain as ;it present. It was decided that a rebate of 5 per cent, be allowed on general rates paid within one month of the due date.

A deputation of fanners made representations for the opening of a new access road to lands in the Upper Papamoa district, and it was decided to bring tho matter before the commissioner of Crown lands afe Auckland.

Benham, in regard to establishing, camps for singlo men to be employed on the improvement of the Tauranga-Matamata main highway and the Tauranga-Rotorua direel road Tho schemo is to bo sub mitted to tho Main Highways Board and the Unemployment Board.
