WHANGAREI.
The North Auckland Women's Christian Temperance Union Convention was opened in Whangar.ei on Friday night, when delegates from various places in the North were present. The Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, extended a welcome to the gathering, and the various local ministers also spoke. A programme of musical items was rendered, after which the meeting adjourned till Saturday. Mrs. T E. Taylor, Dominion president of the W.C.T.U. who was to have addressed the meeting on the League of Nations was mifortunately ill, and was unable to take part in the opening. The convention was continued on Saturday and a resolution was carried as follows:—"This convention emphatically protests against the postponement of the licensing poll." It was decided to support all women candidates in elections irrespective of party. This has been recommended by the Dominion president to all unions throughout the Dominion."
