ELLERSLIE TRAINING.

CANDIDATES FOR AVONDALE. FULL MEASURE GOES NICELY. . CATOMA ALSO WORKS WELL. BY ARCHER. The weather was fine and track conditions were much improved for. training operations at Ellerslie on Saturday, when Borne very interesting work was recorded by candidates for the Avondalo Jockey Club's spring meeting. All the- galloping was performed on the No. 3 grass, and, although the going was slow, some very Useful gallops wero accomplished. Cold Money (Ansel) was first to use the grass and, after running the first three in 41 4-ss. she completed six furlongs in 1.25. Gold Money lias not. been asked any serious cutest ions lately, but she is in good health and a, few smart sprints will sharpen her up for her coming engagements. restaurant (Gall) and Titanetlo (Murray) were associated over fivo furlongs in 1.10. Neither was unduly bustled but, Restaurant was going easier at tho finish. Stimulant, with W. Gall's Te Monanui two-year-old to assist over part of the journey, sprinted three, furlongs in 41s. Stimulant is doing his work very satisfactorily itnd the Te Monanui gelding is showing improved condition, although he has not yot, revealed any particular dash. Marchette, after running the first, three in 41' l-ss, eased up to complete six furlongs in, 1.27 2-5. Speedfast was also allotted a useful six furlongs, and ho went steadily all through to register 1.27.3-5. Marchette and Speedfast are both commencing to make some, progress. A Useful Six Furlongs. Lady Court (Thomson) began faster than Royal Gallant -(Wiggins) and led him over six furlongs, tho first three taking 40 2-5s and tho full distance, 1.22 3-5. It was a very satisfactory piece of work, as they wero not bustled and both wero doing it well at tho finish. Tho best gallop of the morning went to the credit of Full Measure (McTavish), who ran his first three in 38s, and finished up six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. Under the conditions this was quite a good effort. Full Measure is very bright and muscular and should bo at the top of his form for tho spring meetings. Catoma (Fergus) went in good stylo over six furlongs, running the first three in 39 4-ss, and tho full distance in 1.20 8-5. Ho was going on very strongly at tho end end would have run a very sound gallop with a companion. Catoma should strip very fit for his engagement in the Champion Hack Plate. Cat-i-mes covered four furlongs in 55 l-ss. while Light Step and Capcre went five furlongs comfortably in 1.11. Karangapai (McTavish), who held an advantage over the first two furlongs in 265. finished much stronger than Excella Tea (Jenkins) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.6 2-5. Karangapai did his work nicely and should bo ready to show some form very shortly. Pal (Cammick) appeared to bo going slightly better than Bonny Mumble (Mur ray) and Sir Val (Tremain) at. the end of five furlongs in J .7, These novices are not being hurried but they are all making a little progress. Puriri Park's Gallop. Te Money (McTavish), Great Emblem (Fuller) and Puriri Park (L. Munson) covered their first three furlongs in 38 3-ss. and were practically abreast at tho conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19 4-5. Te Money went better than for some time past and Great Emblem, although he had an advantage in weight, made a good showing for a novice. Puriri Park /was on the outside and he was revelling in his work at the end. Gay Cockade (Parsons) accomplished a working gallop over a round in 1.47 3-5. ihe last half-milo being run in 545. Gay Cockade has not been stretched right out lately, but ho has been accomplishing plenty of sound work and should be in first-class order for his Avondalo Cup engagement. Brampton, on the extreme outside, and A. Robertson's Flying King—Chatenay gelding were going easier than Scotland lard, a lazy worker, at the conclusion of hve furlongs in 1.10 2-5. Brampton is getting through his work in good style and may not be long in striking form again. The Flying King gelding is also doing well J and will very likely have his first, race j at Avondalo. Bonnie went at his ease over four fnr- ! longs in 51 l-ss, and Air Lassie was not » = ked for her best to run three furlongs in ■i;s. If appearances are any indication. Berinie should be an improved horse this spring. Tetrarchate and United. Tetrarchate (Parsons) and United (Dirk), ran their first two furlongs in 25 2-ss, and completed five in l.fi H-5. There was littlo between them at the end and botn hit out well. United's effort indicated ♦ hat he, is thriving in spite of the fact that, ho has grown very tall and has not thickened out as much as expected. Sir Mond (L. Manaon) and Good Idea (Parsons) went smartly over tho fir=t two furlongs of a five furlongs sprint in 25 l-ss. and when Good Idea was eased in the straight Sir Mond drew out I<> finish clear in 1.6 J-5. Sir Mond is thriving splendidly. , . . , , Loterie (McTavish) hit out with plenty of freedom whilo running four furlongs in 53 3-ss. and Kawaiuga ran an easy three furlongs in 45 l-ss. Loterie has usually shown plenty of pace on the tracks and he looks more solid than formerly, so that he may lace in improved fashion this season. Tho Avondnle Stakes candidates, Whirlalong (Dick) and the Musketoon-Lady Ridicule filly (L. Manaon) were sprinted three furlongs along tho back. Whirlalong jumped off a good length in front but they were together at tho end of the first furlong in lHs. They run tho next furlong I in 12 l-ss. and Whirlalong drew out slightly in the third furlong to finish just in front : in 38 2-ss. Whirlalong did her work very i solidly and the Musketoon filly showed quite 1 a nice turn of speed. Patutahi Falls. Billy Boy was allotted a working gallop I over a round in 1.64 2-S, and Scaramouohe j performed a similar task, running tho iust i six furlongs in 1.34. I Tho Humbug—Armadillo filly sprinted j three furlongs in 40 4-5 a This youngster I was very backward when taken in hand by E. Rae, but she has built up a good deal lately and. although, :?he. may never ! carry much flesh, she. has improved coni siderably in appearance. 1 In the nbsence of H. Rama, who has I been spending a few days in Hawera, ! Taneriri and Manawhenna were restricted to j steady pacing on the tan. Rama is exi ix-eted to return to-day and his charges ! will probably gallop to-morrow. Taneriri ■ is as lively as ft two-year-old and was very 1 lirfht-hearted after finishing his work on Saturday. , , i Neil (Williams). Patutahi (Olive) and i Kouranui (Burgess) were associated in a ' bout over tho schooling hurdles. Patutahi crashed through the second fence and unseated his rider, over whom he stumbled several yards past tho fence. Olive wan shaken, 'but had ft remarkable escape from injury. Neil and Kouranui both fenced well and Patutahi afterwards negotiated the ! remaining fences very carefully. _ . AVONDALE SPRING MEETING. ACCEPTANCES ON FRIDAY. Acceptances for all events, including the Champion Hack Plato, to bo run on tho first day of the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, close at 5 p.m. next Friday. CRICKET BAT AND CROUPIER. Great interest is boing taken locally in the contest between Cricket Bat and Croupier in tho Wanganui Guijcas next Thursday. Croupier will have an advantage in tho matter of racing condition, but Cricket Bat may be more likoly to master tho mile journey and will carry plenty of support from this end. 11. Gray and It. E. Coveny will be the respective riders. Zeebrugge. who will bo ridden by J. Barry, is also very forward and can be rated as a useful second string for the Chokeboro stable in the classic.
