Willi upwards of one hundred horses engaged at the spring meeting of Ihe Wanganui Jockey Club next week, training operations are now attracting considerable attention, and quite a number of spectators were present for (he after-breakfast gallops this morning There were several showers during tho night, making the going heavy. It. is difficult to recall a timo when the trucks were as soft at this time of tho year as they are now, yet tho going is far superior to that experienced at many other centres. The outside of the course proper was available for fast work, tho pegs being about 10ft. out. Before breakfast W. H. Dwyer worked Knollmere and Paratoo, while T. Clarke also had Aston out. l'nratoo did halfpace work and Aston was not bustled in a run at three-quarter piico over half a mile. Knollmere was clocked (o tako a little under 52s for four furlongs down the back, starting from tho six furlongs post. He is in good heart.

The majority of trainers preferrod to work after breakfast., although conditions earlier wero equally as good, tho weather being fine.

Impetuous finished in front of Pomp at tho end of five furlongs in 1.(5. This may be accounted a, very creditable performance on tho part of Impetuous, who is very well, and is suro to run a good race in the Durio Hack Handicap on Thursday. .Pomp's class should stand to him in the Maiden Race, in spite of tho fact that ho has not been up as long as his companion.

Callan ran five furlongs in J.B. She is to contest tho Maiden Race on Thursday but may find some of the others engaged difficult to dispose of. Lady Pam, looking very well and hitting out nicely, finished better than Cimabue at tho end of six furlongs in 1,21, tho last five in a fraction over 1.7. Psychologist and Pedestal were sent off from the Seafield Handicap starting-post, covering 71 furlongs in 1.12 without being extended. Pedestal went well.

Arisua had to come homo by himself at tho end of six furlongs, run in 1.22, for Ridgemount, who started with him. was eased up over the final stages owing to some gear giving way. They travelled fast over the initial stages. Spear Lad, Movietone and St. Itoger covered six furlongs in 1.23 3-5, tho lastnamed having tho advantage at. the finish. Movietone in not a good track-worker. Kowhatu was going as well as Hymgreat at the end of a couple of rounds over the schooling hurdles, Auctioneer being pulled off after jumping two flights, whereas the ot.her two jumped four. IvOwhatu went very well. ARRIVALS FROM BLENHEIM. T. R GEORGE'S TEAM OF FOUR. [BY TET-EGRAni. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Sunday. Tho Blenheim trainer T. R. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.J DUNEDIN, Saturday. It is unusual for a horse to complete his racing career with a win, but such is the case with Radiac, who won the September Steeplechaso to-day. After the raco ho was given away for use as a hack and ho is not to race any more.

Radiac was fouled in 1018 and was bred /bv Mr. G. M. Currie, being by Absurd from ('intra. He did not commence racing until he was a three-year-old, when lie had four unsuccessful outings, after which ho did not race until ho was a five-year-old, when ho registered fivo wins and a number of minor placings. 'At that period Radiac was raced by A. D. Webster and, after winning over hurdles ai a six-year-old, he passed into tlio hands of Mr. J. C. N. Grigs. For the remainder of his career Radiac did most of his racing m the South Island aud subsequently was raced by both Mr. n. A. Rhind and Mr. P. J. Conn. In all, Radiac contested 8(5 races for 16 wins, six seconds and 17^ thirds. His stake-winnings amounted to £27ft2.

NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE. TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP. The Uiccarton trainer, F. D. .Tones is at present handling a three-year-old filly by Shambles from Sopra. dam of Reonui. Isa, formerly in the same stable, las been sent to tho Elderslio Stud to bo mated with Iliad. A Iwo year-old gelding t>.v Quex from Bayou, a daughter of tho imported Bayardo mare, Bayonne, has been taken in hand at Riccarton by C. Davcy for Mr. P. F. Campbell, owner of Compris. Ho is a well-framed youngster, but will bo given plenty o£ time.

Thurina, who won two of tho minor steeplechases at the Grand National meeting, has beep sent homo, and ho will be spelled for a few months. It is probablo that tie will bo used as a show hunter, but lie will not return to Riccarton until it is time to get him ready for next winter, when he may develop good form over country.

Gasrunge. half-brother to Aurora Borealis, has been recommissioned at Riccarton by J. B. Pearson. Last season this gelding showed very little promise, and as ho appeared to be in want of more time, it was deemed advisablo to give him a lengthy epell. Ihe same trainer has also made another start with tho Irish-bred gelding Honeycomb, who has had e, chequered career, owing to Buffering from knee trouble.

Tho South Island filly Battle Queen met with an accident last week, which will prevent her from making her proposed first nppearance as a three-year-old at tho C* era Idino meeting. She was being led to the course and broke away from her attendant through being knocked into by some unruly horses on the road. She galloped for sonie distance and in negotiating ti gutter fell, cutting botl stifles severely. Battle Queen is making a good recovery, but will bo out of commission for a whilo yet.

Sir Andrew, who filled third plnco in Hie St. Leger at Donoaeter last week, showed trood form in the spring, when lio won the Newmarket Stakes. Ho 1?i owned in America.. where ho was brod. His sire, bir Gallahnd. 111.. is a French-hred horse, but the blood is almost wholly English. He is by Teddy, son of Ajax, by FlyuiK Fox. Ins dam being by Spearmint from Concertina, by St. Simon.
