MOTOR RACING.
IRISH TOURIST TROPHY. VICTORY FOR BABY CARS. (Received August 23. 9.13 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. The motor race for tho Irish Tourist Trophy resulted as follows: —N. Black, M G Midget, 1. Time, sh. 13m. 515., ! equal to 67,9 miles an hour; B. Borzacchini, Alfa Borneo, sh. 17m. 35., 79.05 miles an hour, 2; S. A. Crabtree, M. G. Midget, sh. 17m. Bs., 67.62 miles an hour, 3. There was a thrilling contest over the famous Ards circuit of 410 miles, in the presence of nearly 500,000 spectators, including Spanish ex-Royalties, English peers and peeresses, and the Governor of Northern Ireland, the Duke of Abercorn. The world's fastest motor-cars competed. Some skidded and crashed through hedges. A stand containing 60 spectators collapsed, and many persons were injured. The contest ended in a triumph for the baby cars. The Englishman won after a headlong contest with the Italian, while last year's winner, tho Italian driver Nuvolari, retired as a piston [ seized. I Sir Henry Birkin broke all lap records, • the first at 79.79 miles an hour, then 80 and 89 miles an hour. The race last year was won by the | Italian team, the first three places being won by Alfa Borneo cars. Sir Henry Birkin crashed a wall. Signor Nuvolari was the winner. His average speed was 70.32 miles an hour. The race is run on handicap, on a time start and laps are credited.
