RECORD IN HURDLE RACE. ENCLAND WINS CONTEST. (Received August. 23, 9.43 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. In an athletic contest afc Stamford Bridge to-day England beat Italy by 83* points to 62£. England won 10 events, and Italy four. Tho outstanding feature of the contest was the meeting of the British hurdler Lord Burghlcy with the Italian crack Facelli. Burghlcy won the 120 yards race, but Facelli was victorious in the 440 yards, in which he equalled Burghley's record of 53 4-ss. NEW WORLD RECORD. HUNDRED METRES SPRINT. (Received August 23. 11.35 p.m.) VANCOUVER, August 22. At an international athletic meeting to-day Eddie Tolan, of Michigan, a negro, set a world's record for the 100 metres. His time was 10 3-10s. Frank WykolT, of the University of Southern California, was second. Percy Williams, tlie Canadian champion, withdrew just before tho race, o\ving to a sore leg muscle. The prior record of 10 2-ss. was held by Tolan and C. W. Paddock. r lolan holds the world's record for 100 yds., 9|s., done in 1929.
