UNLUCKY THIRTEEN.
RAILWAY DISMISSALS.
WOMEN ON AUCKLAND STAFF.
Ten women employees of the Railways Department, who recently received notice of their dismissal from their positions in the Auckland railway station offices, concluded their appointments on Saturday. These comprised two telephone exchange operators anrl eight typists, and as three women clerks had previously received notice this brings the total discharged to 13, no women typists now remaining on the staff in Auckland. Their places will be filled by cadets and junior clerks at present engaged in other directions, so that no new appointments will be made.
Although telegrams of protest were sent to the Minister of Railways, Hon. W. A. Vcitch, by the women affected, the Minister replied that he was unable to intervene, as the matter was entirely in the hands of the Railways Board.
