false pretences charges.
LABOURER SENT TO GAOL.
On four charges of obtaining credit by fraud to the extent of £33 18s 4d, Robert Harrison Chrome, aged 38, labourer (Mr. Noble), appeared for sentence before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court on Saturday.
The probation officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, said it was difficult to recommend probation as there was moro than £3O restitution to bo mado and accused had been ' convicted previously. ' Accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. A sentence of three months' imprisonment was imposed on Hilda Ihomas, aged 31, domestic (Mr. Aekins), for vagrancy. On a similar charge, Constance Oliver, aged 30, domestic (Mr. Broadbent), was convicted and ordered to come up • for sentence when called ilpon. Accused was also ordered to take out a prohibition order. It was stated by the police that both women had been drinking in hotels with undesirable persons and had had previous convictions.
