THE FIVE YEAR PLAN.
Sir,—The Rev. W. G. Monckton is to be congratulated on his interpretation of the spirit behind the Five Year Plan in Russia, but he apparently does not realise that it is not only "an attempt to fundamentally change the spirit _ and productive capacity of labour," but it has a political objective as well. This is quite candidly stated by Soviet leaders, who have inspired their followers with the declaration that the plan is a plan "for the destruction of capitalist stabilisation," and ngain, "its great international significance should not be underestimated. It is a great plan of world revolution." This political objective is too often overlooked while the reconstruction of Russia is accepted as the chief aim. N.Z. Welfare League.
