BELATED PASSENGER.
MONOWAI ALMOST MISSED.
A man who was a through passenger by the steamer Monowai was nearly left behind at Auckland yesterday. The vessel originally was scheduled to sail at 5 p.m., but her sailing was postponed until 10 p.m., at which time the gangway was promptly lowered.
The passenger, who had stayed too long with friends on shore, arrived at the ship's side three minutes later, just as the mooring lines were about to be cast off. The Monowai had to be hove close to the wharf to allow the to be hoisted level with the deck again. The late comer was taken on board amid cheers from the other passengers.
