FINANCES OF STATES.
EXCESS OF EXPENDITURE. NEW SOUTH WALES DEFICIT. SYDNEY. May 9. A deficit of £7.789,420 in the finances of New South Wales is revealed in the figures for the first 10 months of the present financial year. The revenue amounted to £32.995,092 and the expenditure to £40,784,512.
Although the Victorian Treasury's statement for the 10 months shows a shortage of £4,994,200, adjustments during the remaining two months arc expected to reduce the deficit to £2,000,000.
On April 30 Queensland had a credit balance of £2,390,392 in all her funds. The statement of the consolidated revenue of Tasmania shows that expenditure exceeded receipts for the 10 months by £225,149.
