FINE PICTORIAL SECTION. MANY TOPICAL FEATURES. Topical eventß are admirably illustrated in this week's issue of the Auckland Weeki.y News, which is on sale to-day. The large pictorial section contains also many other excellent features which combine to make the current numbor of the journal of outstanding merit. Interesting topics from picturesque Marlborough and Nelson provinces are extensively illustrated in the number. The centre double page is titled "Gathering the Golden Grain in the South. Island of New Zealand," and it depicts this season's harvesting operations in Marlborough. Attractive summer holiday resorts in the district are illustrated on a full page. There are also pictures secured on recent picnic outings in the Marlborough Sounds. The apple harvest in Nelson orchards is also shown, while there is an excellent reproduction of a view of the harbour and township of Picton. On two pages are several photographs of remarkable earthquake effects in the stricken Hawke'g Bay area. In particular, one full page is devoted to two excellent panoramic views of the centre of Nnpier, taken from the same spot before and after the earthquake. These photographs strikingly illustrate the tremendous havoc wrought in the town. There are many photographs of athletic and sporting interest. The subjects includo the New Zealand swimming championships at Wanganui, a record tiger shark and big-gamo fishing thrills at Whangaroa, difficult peaks of the Southern Alps conquered by enthusiastic alpinists, the regatta at Mercer and the world's fastest speedboat and her crew. An interesting collection of miscellaneous topical, scenic and travel pictures is included in the remaining pages of the issue..
