THE AUSTRALIAN DIRECTOR. APPROACHING RETIREMENT. (Received January 1, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 1. The Commonwealth meteorologist, Mr. H. A. Hunt, will retire in February. Among tho applicants who are eligible for the position is Dr. E. Kidson, head of the New Zealand meteorological department. Dr. Kidson, who was appointed director of tha New Zealand Meteorological De partment in May, 1927, at a salary of £9OO a year, had held the position of supervising meteorologist and assistantdirector of the Commonwealth Meteorological Service for the previous six years. He is a native of Nelson. He was educated at Nelson College and Canterbury College. He was awarded the degree of D.Sc. by the University of New Zealand for researches in meteorology. His. experience extends to several countries besides Australia and New Zealand.
