THE COST OF HANSARD.

Sir, —The Hon. R. MacCallum, M.L.C., has been putting a high value upon a lot of matter that is printed in Hansard. But the public gets the gist of all Parliamentary ideas from the newspapers and the fact that the public does «ot read Hansard is sufficient proof that it is not required. Everyone knows that its main use is for electioneering purposes. At a time when the strictest economy is necessary there is not the slightest justification for its continuance. The taking of th-s census was abandoned this year in the interests of economy, but the census statistics are a much more serious loss than the unread reams of Hansard would be. It should be suppressed without question. Waste.
