OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

TAURANGA >HOUSE BURNED. V,, ADJOINING DWELLING SAVED* [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUKANGA, Saturday. A four-roomed house in Roberts Street, two miles from the town of Tauranga, and owned and occupied by Mr. F. Hopkin, was destroyed by fire yesterday. Mr. Hopkin and his family were • absent at the time. When the brigade arrived the building was burning too fiercely to be saved and the firemen'B energies were directed to saving the adjoining house, which also is. owned by Mr. Hopkin. This they were successful in doing. The house that was burned was insured for £325 in the Queensland Office and the contents for £290 in the South British Office. HOUSE AT AVONDALE. DAMAGE TO ONE ROOM. One room of a five-roomed house at thi corner of New Windsor and Manukau Roads, Avondale, was damaged by fin about nine o'clock last evening. The oo cupier, Mr. J. Bleakley, "and his familj were absent. The call was answered by the Avondale and Point Chevalier brigades. AN EXTENSIVE GLARE. • WASH-HOUSE AT PONSONBY. A wash-house adjoining the resident • of Mr. D. Flynn, 21, New Street, Poii sonby, was badly damaged by fire lasi evening. the scene, but the outbreak was quickl; suppressed by the City and Ponsonbj Brigades. AN UNOCCUPIED HOUSE. DESTRUCTION OF PREMISES. ' A five-roomed house and garage in Lak# Road, Ellerslie, owned by Mrs. Shergold, of Victoria Street West, was totallj destroyed by fire early yesterday mom ing. It was unoccupied. • The house is il an isolated position and no wat-er supplj was available. GRANDSTAND IN DANGER., DISCOVERY AFTER RACES. [Br TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.'] DUNEDIN, Saturday. The outside grandstand at the Winga tui racecourse was found on fire after tht, last race yesterday. Smoke was seen issuing from th« stand and the caretaker succeeded in extinguishing the 'fire with the club's firefighting appliances. This was not a* complished, however, before a big hot was burned in the centre of the stand.
