BATHING FATALITIES.
BOY DROWNED IN RIVER. FALL INTO DEEP HOLE. SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE. [bv telegraph.—press association.] MASTERTON, Sunday. A drowning accident occurred this afternoon when John Maher, aged 16. lost his life in the Waiohine River, Greytown. The lad went to the river in company with a boy of 11 years. He waded into the water for some distance when he . suddenly disappeared into a deep hole. His body was recovered three-quarters of ( an hour later.
The boy was employed as a farm hand by Mr. William Walsh, of Ahiakouka, and came from St. Joseph's Home, Upper Hutt, PATE OF FARM HAND. COLLAPSE IN A CANAL. A farm labourer, Mr. Harold Burgess, aged 23, of Kerepehi, died while bathing in the Awairi Canal, Hauraki Plains, on Saturday afternoon. Deceased, who had no relatives in New 'Zealand, had been employed by Mr. H. Candy, of Kerepehi. He had at one time resided in Auckland.
