PLIGHT OF FARMERS.
NEW SOUTH WALES INDUSTRY. HEAVY BURDEN OF DEBT. SYDNEY. Dec. 5. The conference of representatives of flie primary producing industries, banking, mercantile and insurance interests, held in Sydney yesterday, made an appeal for tho men on the land. The chairman, Mr. James Ividd, said the country people were " bleeding to death." It was stated that tho debts of the wheat farmers to business firms, storekeepers and the Rural Industries Board amounted to £10,500,000, and tlAt a large proportion of graziers were in a similar plight. The conference urged measures to reduce the costs of production, and to form a State and Federal council.
