CRICKET AT ADELAIDE.

WEST TNDIES ELEVEN. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MATCH. (Received December 5, 10.55 p.m.) ADELAIDE, Dec. 5. The West Indies cricketers to-day commenced a match against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval. The weather was sultry and the wicket fast. The visitors won the toss and opened with Roach and Birkett, both of whom were cautious, taking 18 minutes to make 12 runs. Roach lifted a, ball into the deep field for six, and Lonergan, in attempting to make a catch, collided with the fence and retired hurt. When the score was 31 Birkett was caught by Wall at deep mid-on. Headley began steadily, but Grimmett was puzzling both batsmen. Iloach passed his 50 in 76 minutes. In the over before the luncheon adjournment ho was caught on the boundary. Headley was then 25 and two runs later ho was run out through a smart return by Waite at third man. The remaining wickets fell quickly and the innings closed for 171.

Harris and Nitsclike opened South Australia's first innings. Nitschke had made 22 when Francis bowled him. Harris and Pritchard both were run out.

Richardson was never at his ease, and had made only two runs when he was out leg before. Grimmett batted an hour for 20 and brought up the century .with a four through the slips. Details of the scores are: —
