NEW GIPSY MOTH.

AERO CLUB MACHINE. FLIGHT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. TRIP BY FIVE AEROPLANES. A new Gipsy Moth aeroplane was taken delivery of from the Government by the Auckland Aero Cluli at the Mangere aerodrome yesterday. Trial flights made by Flying-Officer D. M. Allen, instructor to the Aero Club, and Mr. R. J. Copley, mechanic, proved most satisfactory. The latest Gipsy Moth differs from the usual type in that the framework of the fuselage is constructed of metal tubing instead of wood. The new Moth, which was piloted from Christchurch by Sergeant Simpson, of the Defence Department, arrived at the Hobsonville air base at 2.30 yesterday afterneon and was later flown to the Mangere aerodrome. The machine left the Wigram aerodrome, Christchurch, on Monday and spent the night at Ilawera. The trip was continued yesterday morning, a stop being made at New Plymouth en route to Auckland. The machine and four other club aeroplanes will be flown to New Plymouth and back to-day and will leave the Mangere aerodrome at 9.30 a.m. The return journev will be commenced at about three o'clock. The pilots will he Mr. E. R. Boucher, Mr. .R. A. Kirkup, Mr. W. Stevenson, Mr. T. Phiicox, who will be accompanied by Mr. R. J- Copley, and Flying-Officer D. M. Alien, who will also carry a passenger. During the visit to New Plymouth the fliers will be the guests of the New Plymouth Aero Club. This will be the last of the series of weekly flights to country centres to bo undertaken for three weeks. The Auckland Aero Club expects to take delivery of its new Puss Moth machine, which i 3 being imported from England, during the first week of next month.
