MOTORING ACCIDENTS.

CAR DRIVER KILLED. SEVEN PEOPLE INJURED. COLLISION ON HUTT ROAD. ONE VEHICLE WRECKED. [BY. TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. man was killed and seven persons were injured as the result of two motor- - ears /colliding on the Hutt Road shortly before midnight last night. A third enr ran into one of the wrecked vehicles shortly after the accident, btit none of the occupants of this car was injured Details are:— Killed. Mr. Alfred J, Wiggs, aged 53, retired civil servant, of Abel Smith Street, Wellington. INJURED. Mr. Jorgeuson, of Victoria Street, Lower Hutt, slight injuries and shock. Mrs. Jorgen3on, severe head, leg and bodily injuries. Mrs. Hinds, of Island Bay, head,, leg and bodily injuries. Mr. Norman Wallace, newspaper proof reader, The Terrace, Wellington, cuts on head and leg injury. Mr. Henry Bigham, Rakau Road, Hataitai, cuts on head and legs. Miss Anna Findlater, Lower Hutt, cuts and shock. Dr. Christina Findlater, Lower Hutt, cuts and shock. The cars involved in the major collision ■were driven by Mr. Wiggs and Miss Anna Findlater. Miss Findlater, who is a dentist at the public hospital, had as passengers in her car her sister, Dr. Findlater and Mr. Bigham. They were travelling toward Hutt Valley. Tho passengers in Mr. Wiggs' car were Miss Hinds, Mr. and Mrs. Jorgenson and Mr .Wallace. Thyo collision occurred near Ngahauranga. Shortly afterwards a car driven by Mrs. Eva Dvvan crashed into Miss Findlater's car and was damaged, but the occupants of this car were not injured. Mr. Wiggs died in tho ambulance while on the way to tho hospital. Miss Findlater's car is a complete wreck. The body was thrust right back and the " radiator forced upon the engine, which in turn was pressed back into the driver s compartment. Tho wheels were smashed ■ off at the hubs and the steering column / left bare. .... Tho man who was knocked down by 8. motor-car on tho Great South J load between Ngaruawahia and Horotiu, near tho Ngaruawahia Cemetery, last evening, has been identified as Mr. Christopher Millar, aged 65 yeais, a farm hand employed by Mr. L. R. W. Reid, of Te lloe. Tho driver of tho car which struck Mr. Millar, Mr. F. W. Mason, a car salesman, of Huntly, conveyed the injured man to Ngaruawahia for medical attention, but in view of the gravity of his injuries he was removed to tho Waikato Hospital. He was found to have received a sovore fracture of the skull and a wound on the forearm. It is also believed that his neck is fractured. No hopes arc entertained for his recovery. Mr. Millar had left Te Hoe on Saturday morning for tho racos at To llapa And when found on the road had in his possession a return ticket from Ohinowai to Frankton Junction. It is thought that lie missed tho train and had stilted to /walk home. Mr. Millar is an American, who has been employed by Mr. Reid for 15 years.
