SYDNEY WOOL SALES. COMPETITION VERY KEEN. SUPERFINE SORTS IN DEMAND. (Received November 18, 31.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. IS. .At (.lie Sydney wool sales to-day 10,524 bales were offered and 9658 were sold. Also 1200 bales were disposed of privately. Competition was very keen from all sections of the trade. Superfine wools were in strong demand, but wools showing tenderness or dusty and broad-fibred lines were difficult to sell. Greasy Merino sold to 19^d. NEXT LONDON SERIES. PROSPECTS FOR PRICES. The. Rank of New Zealand has received Iho following message from its London ollice:—Tlio general impression is that at tho next series of wool sales greasy Merinos will show a firmer tendency; r.rossbreds probably 7k per cent, to 10 per cent, lower.

Lead—Spot, £l6 16s IOJd (£16); three months, £l6 17s 6d (£l6 2s 6d). Spelter.—Spot, £ls 6s 3d (£l4 18s 9d) ; three months, £ls 17s 6d (£ls 10s). Tin.—Spot, £lls Is 3d (£lls 2s 6d); three months, £ll6 8s 9d (£ll6 12s 6d). Silver. —Standard, 16 11-16 d (16 11-16 d) per oz.; fine, 18d (17 7-8 d).

Recent quotations showed a firmer tendency in the metals markets. The spot quotation for copper lias risen from £4l 15s 7J,d on October 27 to £49 13s Lj,d, over £5 of the increase having occurred in the last week. Sinco November 10 electrolytic copper has risen £7 ss. Lead was quoted at £ls 10s on October 23, after a temporary recovery at tho same price a week ago, sinco when It lias risen 26s Spelter has steadily advanced from £l4 2s 6d on October 23 to £ls 6s 3d. Tin is still erratic. Tho price fell to £ll3 Is 3d on October 16, gradually roso to £llß 16s 10J,d on October 30, and dropped again to £ll2 Is 3d on November 10. INTERIM DIVIDEND. Tlic licad office, of Now Zealand Brewcries, Limited, has advised tho Auckland Stock Exchange that an interim dividend will he paid on December 4. The amount is not slated. IMPERIAL PREFERENCE. BUTTER BUYERS' VIEWS. An indication that the majority of tho Tooley Street dairy produce buying houses arc with the New Zealand producer in his demands for Empire preference is contained in a letter received by a leading Auckland exporter. Tho writers, tho New Zealand Dairy Produce Association, of Tooley Street, London, advise that at a recent meeting of members of tho association a resolution was passed stressing tho need of Imperial preference as an essential to further trading within tho Empire. Tho resolution added that tho cost of living would not bo affected by preference, but that unemployment would bo lessened. The association commented on the fact that imports of New Zealand dairy produce to London had increased from 13,000 tons of butter and 28,000 tons of cheese in 1913-14 to 73,000 tons of butter and 89,000 tons of cheeso in 1929-30. Tho association comprises tho leading dairy produce importing and distributing houses of London.

DAIRY PRODUCE PRICES. Joseph Nathan and Company, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London house, dated November 17: —Butler, 110s; weak. Clieeso, unchanged ; steady. THE PRICE OF COLD. LONDON, Nov. 37. Gold is quoted to day at 85s per oz. BRADFORD TOPS. LONDON, Nov. 17. On the Bradford wool market Merinos are very firm and there is considerable demand for tops.
